Meet the latest Out Of The Box artists!

Following the success of Out of the Box 2023, J-Night and Hull City Arts Development are delighted to announce the latest round of commissions for the 2024 edition, to support and diversify the development of the local music sector and enable musicians to develop their styles outside their usual musical boxes.

The 2024 awardees will showcase their work on November 23rd at The Albemarle Music Centre, including Q&A sessions with the artists, alongside a site-specific performance in Pearson Park on November 9th.

A brand new collaboration between dub producer / DJ Simma and multi-instrumentalist Sarge, connecting the dots between jazz, reggae, trip-hop, electronica, broken-beat, funk and new wave using a combination of live improvisation, contemporary dub mixing and experimental sampling.

Ysabelle is collaborating with percussionist and producer Joe Mooney to marry their two worlds as artists working in inclusion and as musicians to create a new work; incorporating stories from disabled people, BSL performance, film and music technology.

Sam and Daniel aim to revive Gurewich’s Saxophone Concerto, originally for saxophone and orchestra. This partnership will enhance their understanding of how the saxophone can symbiotically work within the classical idiom, bridging the gap between modern orchestral instrumentation and the instrument’s capabilities. The Eclectic Orchestra will be directed by Rebecca Parker and led by Stephanie Noble

Multimedia artist Pheobe riley Law and cellist Gaia Blandina explore nature’s reclamation of place. They investigate how plant roots and stem systems mirror community cohesion and economic divides in and around Pearson Park using specialised microphones to record environments such as moss, soil, trees, and other micro-worlds that are beyond our normal range of hearing.
