The Commission:
Here is a suite of four pieces dedicated to the city, written by Hull native Matt Holborn.
Drawing on a wide range of influences, the suite is an exploration into acoustic jazz that doesn’t stick within any specific musical tradition.
Simple by nature, with folk-inspired melodies, jazz improvisation and a global sense of rhythm, the music is also informed by Hull’s history, its place on the map and its people.
Artist Biography:
Matt Holborn is a Hull-born improvising violinist based in London. Performing in many capacities, Matt has appeared at countless international jazz festivals and venues and has become a leading figure in jazz violin.
Premiere Performance:
The Matt Holborn Quartet will perform the world premiere of Here at Hull Truck Theatre on Thursday 11th November 2021, as part of Hull Jazz Festival.
