Acid Dub Studies is the fully-fledged result of the merging of the calligraphic expression of the 303 Acid bassline with the stern sway of Dub Reggae and the hazier edges of Dub Techno and Ambient music. Om Unit brings the fusion works to the live stage with a new updated show.

NikNak is a multi-disciplinary artist described as a ‘musical polymath’ by Clash Magazine, with releases on Kynant Records, First Terrace Records, Inventing Waves, OTONO, Come Play With me and more. Eclectic genre-defying duo, Mambo Jambo, Pete and Frankie, plus their wonderful array of instruments, are joined by violinist extraordinaire, Joe ‘Hotbow’ Martin for spontaneous, joyful music making and a romp across genres. Some may remember Joe from when he was fronting the legendary Hull band Ain’t Misbehavin’ and leading them to perform at the Montreux Jazz Festival.

Mambo Jambo are known locally for captivating audiences. When they get together with Joe, they really take off, with infectious energy! Expect all sorts of musical wildness, a mash-up of some swing, some Latin American, Cajun, Eastern European, some folky Bluegrass, plus original pieces that they composed together for last year’s Out Of The Box Festival.

Sounds are everywhere.
Some are obvious.
Some are hidden.
Some are forgotten.
Some are ignored.Back for the third instalment, Hidden Sounds unearths previously unheard or ignored sounds to weave an improvised electronic soundscape that floats between delicate microworlds and uncompromising heavy industrial weight. Sounds derived from secret locations, objects left for dead, and always-on systems operating just below our radar – watching, protecting, communicating. This collective of improvising electronic musicians each brings their own palette of sounds to the table (quite literally) and, together, they create a unique, never-to-be-repeated performance.

Andy Scott presents the festival finale super-gig. Andy Scott is a British tenor saxophonist equally at home in jazz and classical contexts and an award-
winning composer.

“Having previously played at Hull Jazz Festival and having a long association working with young musicians in Hull on specific creative projects, I am really thrilled to be able to showcase two new collaborations, and to talk about what life is like as a professional musician.

I’ll play a short set with the brilliant Carmel Smickersgill. Carmel is a Manchester based composer working predominantly within electronic DIY, classical and theatre music. We will create soundscapes via free improvisation, Carmel using ableton live. I’ve gathered together some of the most amazing improvising musicians, for a one-off performance. Hydra Trio with Dave Hassell (drums/percussion) + Nik Svarc (guitar), and also Gemini with Rob Cope (soprano saxophone & bass clarinet) + Liam Noble (piano).

I’ll be writing some simple musical sketches that we collectively interpret and improvise around. The music could go anywhere, and everyone will follow!

It’s risk-taking, exciting, musically dangerous, imaginative and creative, and it will be great to have you there on the journey with us! “
