CELEBRATING 30 YEARS!

Hull Jazz Festival Summer Edition 2014, 24 – 26 July at Hull Truck Theatre

The summer Hull Jazz Festival edition is just under a month away and we already have shows heading to sell-out!

The Honeybirds glamorous re-working of the wonderful world of close harmony singing has now only a handful of tickets left for Friday night 25 July, whilst Stuart Garside’s imaginative re-visioning of the Ska movement from Studio 1 Kingston Jamaica circa 1963 through to Coventry’s 2-Tone movement of 1979  – Last Train to Skaville – will definitely pack out Hull Truck on Saturday 26 July!

Other great shows on sale include virtuoso saxophonist Matthew Smith’s Eclectic4 playing original compositions and classic jazz on 24 July; Django a la Creole with their intriguing mixture of gypsy swing jazz, creole and blues from Louisiana and featuring the remarkable New Orleans clarinettist Evan Christopher and the leader of the legendary New Orleans Serenaders Don Vappie play Friday 25 July.

Jay Phelps and Soweto Kinch provide an intriguing project  for the Festival on Saturday 26 July combining Phelps’ swinging be-bop celebrating 40 years of Miles Davis with Kinch’s hip hop sound from his new project The Legend of Mike Smith.

Meanwhile do not miss the opportunity to experience two of the world’s foremost jazz guitarists Mike Walker and Stuart McCallum at 2pm on Saturday 26 July! Mike Walker is acclaimed as guitarist with the Impossible Gentlemen and regular collaborator with George Russell and Kenny Wheeler, whilst Stuart is the driving force behind the Cinematic Orchestra. A unique and special occasion!
