2pm – Nathan Simm and Paul Sargeson: The Space Between
A brand new collaboration between dub producer / DJ Simma and multi-instrumentalist Sarge, connecting the dots between jazz, reggae, trip-hop, electronica, broken-beat, funk and new wave using a combination of live improvisation, contemporary dub mixing and experimental sampling.

2.40pm – Ysabelle Wombwell and Joe Mooney: What’s What
Ysabelle is collaborating with percussionist and producer Joe Mooney to marry their two worlds as artists working in inclusion and as musicians to create a new work; incorporating stories from disabled people, BSL performance, film and music technology.

3.20pm – Joseph Cox and Gary Hammond: Convergence
Convergence is a project that explores electronic rhythms and acoustic percussion, through the collaboration of an electronic musician Joseph Cox working with modular and analogue synthesizers and percussionist Gary Hammond with access to all manner of acoustic rhythm makers.

4pm – Sam Mavor and Daniel Thompson: Breaking The Mold
Sam and Daniel aim to revive Gurewich’s Saxophone Concerto, originally for saxophone and orchestra. This partnership will enhance their understanding of how the saxophone can symbiotically work within the classical idiom, bridging the gap between modern orchestral instrumentation and the instrument’s capabilities. The Eclectic Orchestra will be directed by Rebecca Parker and led by Stephanie Noble

9TH NOVEMBER – SITE SPECIFIC PERFORMANCE AT PEARSON PARK

1.00pm – Pheobe riley Law and Gaia Blandina present Cam.bi.um (flora): Reclamation of Place

Multimedia based artist Pheobe riley Law and musician Gaia Blandina explore nature’s reclamation of place. They investigate how plant roots and stem systems mirror community cohesion and economic divides in and around Pearson Park.
Gaia Blandina is a cellist and interdisciplinary sound artist. Her work explores non-methods across multiple areas of artistic and academic enquiry. These include improvisation, devising, cello playing and object-making. Stemming from the exploration of nomadic thinking and an interrogation of concept driven practice through philosophy, her work is developed across disciplines and in collaboration with other musicians, writers and artists.
Using specialised microphones to record environments such as moss, soil, trees, and other micro worlds that are beyond our normal range of hearing. This piece will feature sounds collected in and around the park alongside pre-composed and improvised musical ideas.
This new work will invite the audience to reflect on the concepts of nature and its place within the city.

The Out of the Box Commissions are supported by Hull City Council Arts Development team.

All timings are approximate and audiences can come and go throughout the afternoon.
